About this project
Crouch End, in the London Borough of Haringey, is the setting for this small residential lighting design from 2021. The garden sits behind a brick house and is arranged as a series of places to sit, dine and gather by a fire.
Soft light does most of the work here. Trees, grasses and timber are gently lit, and portable style lanterns add to the glow around the furniture.
The lighting
- Multi stem trees and pleached trees are uplit, giving the garden height at dusk.
- A bronze spike light glows at the base of slim tree stems among grasses.
- Grasses and lavender are uplit around a round stone water bowl.
- Woven and rope lanterns with red or leather handles glow on the outdoor dining table, with a woven floor lantern beside a wicker chair on the deck.
- A hardwood slatted wall and a timber fence are washed with warm light behind the seating.
- The outdoor fireplace on the patio glows beside a lit timber screen and cushioned seating.
Fittings and controls
We used low voltage Hunza Lighting, a New Zealand brand known for long lasting, maintainable fittings, with LuxR and Bover Barcelona. Light Symphony controls the scheme.
