About this project
Over several years, from 2019 to 2022, we built up a medium sized garden lighting scheme in Chelmsford, Essex, as a phased installation. The garden combines a swimming pool, a rock garden with a waterfall and a collection of maples, bamboo and conifers.
Because the work was phased, the lighting grew with the garden rather than arriving all at once.
The lighting
- The curved swimming pool glows blue at night, and warm uplights in the bamboo hedge and palms sit behind the timber sun loungers.
- A rock waterfall spills towards the pool and is lit so the water and stone show clearly, with golden Japanese maples above.
- Copper beech, red maple, conifers and silvery shrubs are uplit across the lawn.
- A granite pagoda style lantern glows beside a gravel path in the rock garden.
- A brass armillary sundial on a carved stone pedestal, a gazebo with lattice sides and a circular tree bench are each lit as features.
Fittings and controls
The scheme uses low voltage Hunza Lighting, a New Zealand brand known for long lasting, maintainable fittings, with LuxR and Light Visuals. Light Symphony controls it.
