About this project
This is a small commercial lighting design for the entrance sign at Suttons Business Park in Reading, Berkshire, completed in 2018. The sign is a curved metal sculpture standing on a brick plinth, and it is lit after dark.
The business park has modern industrial units and a drive thru behind the sculpture, so the sign is seen against clad buildings.
The lighting
- The curved metal sculpture is floodlit from low level, so its silver surface glows against the dusk sky.
- Light washes upwards across the sculpture, which brings out its curves and its white and silver finish.
- The brick plinth below is lit alongside the sculpture, so the sign reads as one piece.
- The clad warehouse units sit behind the sculpture in softer light.
Fittings and controls
The fittings are Hunza Lighting, a New Zealand brand known for long lasting fittings that can be maintained over the years. The scheme is controlled with Light Symphony.
